its a challenge to breathe in the summertime

because the humidity in the South is thick

like the barbecue sauce spread over brisket

and the people are the right mix of tangy and sweet, with a kick

but love is there – in every minute

and there’s a build up to the rain, something to anticipate

because the air is so much clearer after the fog

it’ll be crisp, but it won’t last, soon the heaviness comes back

and its hard to breathe again
